Green Homes

Green homes are designed to have a positive impact on energy efficiency, environmental performance and human well being. These environmentally responsible homes reduce the water and energy consumption which overall minimizes the cost of utilities. Homes in the St. Louis area can be certified by three rating systems - Energy Star, LEED and NAHB/GBI, all of which are detailed below. You can search through a current list of St. Louis homes that meet any of these criteria to the left or search specifically by rating system below.

The St. Louis Homebuilders Association provides a list of builders who are members of the St. Louis Green Building Imitative, which you can view here.

Energy Star Homes
Energy Star is a rating by the Environmental Protection Agency and US Department of Energy that can be applied to an entire home or to individual appliances.

LEED Homes
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system was developed by the US Green Building Council. This point-based system rates entire buildings/homes and factors in community resources as well as site characteristics such as appliance efficiency.

NAHB/GBI Homes
The National Green Building Standard (NGBS) was developed by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The Green Building Initiative of St. Louis (GBI), handled through Laclede Gas, verifies local homes are in compliance with NAHB Guidelines. Review full verification criteria here.
